Prophon is a non-profit organization, licensing the public usage of music in Bulgaria, according to the Copyright and Neighbouring Rights Law. Prophon licenses the following music usage – TV and radio broadcasting, web- and simulcasting, retransmission (e.g. through cable or satellite), public performance.
Since 1998, PROPHON became the most recognized licensing organization, representing and managing the neighbouring rights of the recording artists and music producers in Bulgaria. In 2010 and 2011 PROPHON distributed more than 9 million BGN to more than 50 000 rightowners - music artists and producers from all over the world, whose music was used in Bulgaria.
PROPHON collects remunerations for a huge music catalogue, which includes the repertoire of the four major record companies (Universal Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment, EMI and Warner Music Group), more than 25 000 independent local and foreign labels as well as more than 170 of the most popular local artists, producers, bands, music companies. PROPHON is a part of the International Performance Rights Committee of IFPI and has bilateral agreements with licensing societies from all over the World.
