IFPI published its three major charts for 2021

02 March '22

Yet again the moment has come for the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) to present its three big annual charts to the public. The names of the winners in the categories "Global Artist of the Year", "Global Digital Single of the Year" and "Global Album of the Year in All Formats" have been revealed.

The South Korean boy band BTS has become the first two-time winner of the Global Artist Award.

The K-POP wonders made their first appearance on the list in 2018, when they clinched the second place, and two years later they made history, becoming the first winners who create music in a language other than English.

The Canadian singer The Weeknd also became winner for the second consecutive year. In 2020, his song Blinding Lights was named "Global Digital Single", and a year later the hit Save Your Tears received the same recognition.

The definitive success of Adele‘s long-awaited album 30 was reaffirmed by its triple presence at the top of the charts "Global Album in All Formats", "World's Best-Selling Album" and "Best-Selling Vinyl Album". The last category was launched this year, and is based on the increased interest of listeners in vinyl records.
